  Builds the capital cost allowance schedule beside the book depreciation schedule for an asset register, then rolls the temporary differences forward into the deferred tax liability, with the journal entries and the Schedule 1 reconciling lines, on a fictional printing company's eight assets.

  • UCC continuity by class in the Schedule 8 layout: half-year rule, Accelerated Investment Incentive, enhanced and immediate first-year allowances, straight-line classes 13 and 14, recapture, terminal loss and capital gains on disposal
  • Book depreciation per asset, straight-line or declining balance, prorated by month, with gains and losses on disposal and the disposal journal entries
  • Carrying amount less UCC, the deferred tax liability at the enacted rate with an optional rate change and its remeasurement, and the proof that current tax saved equals deferred tax expensed
  • Written first as a Python reference model asserting the textbook cases, then re-implemented in the browser and tested against it to the cent

  Plans, selects and evaluates a monetary unit sample for a test of details: sample size and interval from tolerable and expected misstatement and the risk of incorrect acceptance, systematic selection proportional to size, and the Stringer upper limit compared with tolerable misstatement, on a fictional receivables ledger of 240 customers.

  • Computes the Poisson confidence factors numerically rather than reading them from a table, and reproduces the published tables to the second decimal
  • Seeded random start so a selection can be re-performed by a reviewer; balances at or above the interval fall into a top stratum examined in full
  • Lays out the bound layer by layer: projected misstatement by tainting, basic precision, incremental allowance with the ranked factor increments, and the treatment of understatements under the AICPA guide or Arens
  • Writes the conclusion from the numbers, including how much one more fully misstated item would move the limit, and checks itself against a Python reference model

  Derives an indirect-method statement of cash flows from comparative balance sheets, an income statement and a few notes, and shows the workings: where every balance-sheet change went, how each derived figure was arrived at, and whether the whole thing ties.

  • Derives what the income statement doesn't say: interest and taxes paid, dividends paid, PPE purchases net of a non-cash acquisition, and loan repayments shown gross
  • Presets for IAS 7, the IFRS 18 amendments effective 2027 and ASPE 1540, with the classification of interest and dividends and the treatment of short-term investments as policy switches

  A five-year reading of Canadian Tire's statements, centred on a fiscal 2025 that packed a divestiture, a restructuring, a 53rd week and a new strategy into one set of numbers. Every figure is transcribed from the filings and recomputed; the argument is in the commentary.

  • Keeps the retailer, the bank and the REIT apart: which ratios the consolidated statements distort, and how to read each segment on its own terms
  • Reconciles reported to normalized earnings for each year and shows why $10.57 and $13.77 of EPS are both true about the same year
  • Common-size income statement, condensed balance sheet, five-year cash flow, DuPont decomposition and a valuation snapshot, with the formula and inputs behind every ratio
  • Finds the story in the cash flow statement: a buyback funded by selling a business, and the credit-card book as the segment to watch

  Matches a bank statement to the cash book and produces the two-sided reconciliation statement and adjusting entries. Built to do the mechanical part the way a junior is taught to: cheque numbers first, then amount and date, then investigate what's left.

  • Three-pass matching engine: cheque number, exact amount within a date window, then cheque-number discrepancies flagged with a divides-by-nine transposition test
  • Classifies deposits in transit, outstanding cheques, NSF items, bank charges, interest and stale-dated cheques, and shows the unexplained difference rather than plugging it
  • Proposes the book-side journal entries, exports the reconciliation to CSV, and gives a reviewer a workbench to override any match
  • No server, no dependencies: CSV parsing and matching run in the visitor's browser, so nothing is uploaded

  A treasurer's dashboard built from the work I did as VP Finance: phased budgets, flexible-budget and activity variances, reimbursement commitments, and commentary generated from the same figures the table shows, on a fictional student club's year.

  • Separates the activity variance (more events than planned) from the spending variance (paying more per event) so the right person answers for each
  • Counts approved-but-unpaid claims as committed spend, keeps pending claims out of the actuals, and flags variances only when they clear both a percentage and a dollar threshold
  • Three charts drawn in plain SVG with no charting library, on a palette checked for colour-vision deficiency, with drill-down from any line to its transactions
  • Imports a budget and transaction log as CSV and recomputes everything client-side; every figure is carried in integer cents
